I haven't read the book in over 20 years and just started it again, the other day when I had to appear for jury duty. It's a depressing book and when I read it the first time, I remember being quite appalled by the descriptions of the meatpacking industry. The book follows an immigrant family through many trials and tribulations. The main thing I have noticed, so far, only 100 pages in, is the shitty treatment of the workers and an emphasis on being in a union. It seems that the US, in particular, (because I can't speak on how other countries run things) seems to have backtracked on workers' rights and fair treatment. Business owners big and small seem to be greedy swindlers. The employees and the consumers suffer for that greed. I think that this is a good book to read to gain some perspective on how things…

How to deal with toxic bosses?
Okay so my manager got upset and took my phone away even though I wanted to check the time. She even told everyone that they can go on their phone instead and not me because it seems like she's after me or something. I mean she did say that she's coming after me and when she took it, I felt sad. One manager even told me to stop being a bitch. She threatened to send me home if I am on my phone again. My coworkers started to laugh when they saw her take away my phone for being a “bad boy”. It feels messed up and one of them asked if I was going to cry about it and I told him to watch his mouth. He told me to do something about it. I mean, I just feel like going home because this is embarrassing.
Do you believe it's OK to do? Not for things like degrees, doctor credentials, but just claiming you worked somewhere that you really didn't, in order to cover a gap year. I notice literally nobody cares where you worked and nobody asks, apart from 2-3 questions in interviews.
I have basically no work to do and haven't since late December but still get paid to basically chill and educate myself (WFH ftw). A significant chunk of my team and org takes leave in January which is great for those like me that prefer to take holidays outside of the hectic Xmas/new year period anyway. This depends on the workplace/industry of course but I'm grateful that I can be at work while the world is getting back up to speed and then take a holiday when I really need to. If you can, take advantage of leave timing to suit your wellbeing!

I’m stuck at my job and hate my life
Sorry for the length of if this doesn’t fit in this sub. Maybe I’m just whining for no reason and actually have it pretty cush where I work but I have no damn clue. Gotta vent so I’m venting here. I am an office worker and scheduler at my local community hospital. I hate it. I hate the stress. I hate dealing with entitled rude people constantly, I hate not fitting in, I hate the mediocre pay and lack of appreciation for all I do. It’s not my field. I wanted to go into the graphic design field but nobody wants to hire someone with an Associate’s degree and no experience at an agency (even though I am definitely qualified for many jobs.) In the US, when you turn 26, you get kicked off your parents’ health insurance. I have health issues including mental illnesses, so I needed to be…
Take a 5 minute break, then back to work
The NFL wanted to give the players a 5 minute warm up before restarting the game after a tragic injury to a player. The employees said, nah, for now… https://preview.redd.it/2o72334wpq9a1.png?width=888&format=png&auto=webp&s=20d47ef18582b7ab920869b190fd8d26f886531f
