Called in on Day Off
This happens to me constantly, sometimes three or four times per week. I’m also expected to work evenings and weekends (busiest times) because coworkers with kids claim they “can’t” I worked on Halloween, thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and got called in on Christmas. And then my boss called me in on New Years after they already gave me the day off (someone scheduled called out). They tried to guilt trip me by saying my coworkers were alone and so understaffed and it was so busy….I mean I felt bad but can’t one of the other employees come in for once????? I never call out, but I’m always the first one they contact to fill in last minute when someone does. Probably because I always said yes. And now they are beginning to resent me and get cold towards me when I say no. My boss called me in on New years…
Employers Just Lie About Everything
I guess I'm just not understanding why when I go through interviews and ask all the right questions regarding benefits and work environment, employers are allowed and rewarded for just completely and outright lying to employees about literally EVERYTHING. I've been lied to about salary, work environment, work responsibilities, everything… However, if an employee lies about their qualifications they can face serious legal consequences. Not saying employees should lie about qualifications but if employers are constantly blatantly lying about everything including work environment, salary, benefits, type of work, etc etc etc — shouldn't they regularly be held accountable? I think employees at the very least should be afforded generous severance pay when catfished by a company since that is outright fraud and messes with folx ability to get new jobs (many employers are disgusted by job hoppers even for legitimate reasons), FMLA accessibility, benefits and wages that were lied about,…
Landlords and r/antiwork
I have noticed a really significant uptick in the number of people on this sub who support landlords, evictions of struggling workers, and use really disgusting language when talking about people who are struggling to afford rent. This is an anti-work subreddit. Specifically a leftist anti-work subreddit. There should be no praise or support for landlords. Being a landlord is not a real job, it is being a leech. They are passively stealing the hard earned wages of hard working people and in the vast majority of cases, not even maintaining the property that these people live in. If you lick the boot of a landlord, especially in the face of them evicting a wage earner who is struggling to keep up, you do not belong here. There should be zero tolerance for anyone who supports landlords. On a final note, referring to people who are struggling to make rent…
Tip out goes to the house.
I work at a restaurant in a hotel in Florida, there is an automatic gratuity added to the bill at 19%. 1% of our net sales goes to the house as a tip out. Does anyone know if this is illegal? We don’t physically give this money away the way we we do when we tip out the bartenders, it’s automatically deducted from our paychecks. Thanks in advance for any advice or clarity.
Billionaire athletes
A few athletes have made it to the billionaire club and more will join them. Do you look at them the same as you do the corporate billionaires? Since their income comes from their performance (sometimes unionized), endorsements, and other media, should their work be considered more honest than the corporations who exploit their workers? Note: I'm not factoring in their personalities, just how the money was made. Just seeing what others think.
