Comrades I think r/antiwork and r/fuckcars have many similarities. Our capitalist system is broken in many ways, work-dependency is one of the social injustices, car-dependency is another. Car-dependency and work-dependency feed on themselves: we need a car to go to work to pay the car. r/fuckcars has 378k r/antiwork has 2M. Join us as we need numbers. Numbers is power. Let me explain:: In many countries (more in the US) you cannot survive without a car. Cities were designed around cars (mostly US) due to zoning laws which prohibit e.g. small shops near suburban ares. These laws are forcing everyone to become car-dependent (and even more work-dependent) Car-dependency forces us into a financial dependency we would not have to have if the urban planning was made for people first, instead of cars first. Car-centric urban planning is discriminatory too: under-18s have no mobility freedom (parents must chauffeur them around). Many…
During the pandemic, I did my job 100% remotely for over two years. Last year, our company decided that they were tired of letting our giant office building sit vacant, so they forced us all to come back in 4 days a week. It was bullshit and a lot of people left. I stayed because I love my boss (none of this is her fault and she fought for us to remain remote). I also love the work I create at my job. The main problem is- being in the office sucks. Since we’ve been back, here are just a few of the issues we’ve dealt with- – violence in the workplace (true story) – Crime in our parking lots (car jacking, shootings, robbery) – Constant spread of Illness and COVID – Constant construction forcing us to park in unsafe areas and walk double the distance into the office I…
I've only been at my current job for a month or 2, and now have schedule clashes with my uni schedule. There's no way to rearrange my roster so I figured I'd give my two-week notice so my manager has some time to train people before she leaves for a holiday. I have a 5hr shift tomorrow, and it's a really small + quiet store, so I spend all day pretty much standing next to the manager and only really end up serving 2-3 customers. I'm not sure when or how I should bring it up; I don't want to be grilled for 4 hours on why I'm quitting but I don't want to just let them know 5 minutes before I head out. I don't want to quit through text, because (aside from lying about wages + also working some unpaid time) my colleagues and manager have been pretty…
