I can’t hold down a job. Get overwhelmed with anxiety and end up quitting most of the time.

I have social anxiety and generalised anxiety disorder, I have started a new job about 3 weeks ago, it’s in HR and I was enjoying it to start. my coworkers are friendly. Last week I had been put on the telephones to answer phone calls. I knew this would be happening at some point, but my manager said in my interview i’d be put on the phones 2 months in, but 3 weeks in and she’s told me to go on the telephone and answer all calls, personally I feel like she should have eased me into it at least, I have no knowledge in HR so throwing me straight on the telephone with no experience or even any training on actual HR laws / employment laws is absurd to me. She didn’t even tell me how to use the phones or how I transfer calls and stuff. I had…

February Reddit Talk schedule – Wednesdays at 2 PM PST/5 PM EST – Join us for all-new Reddit Talk experiences!

Hello, everyone! We're back this February with another round of exciting talks! First up is a discussion on a subject everyone has an opinion on: Balancing work with raising children. It's something that's increasingly out of reach these days, but is there anything that can be done about it? Join us on February 1 as we hear both from parents and from those who might like to raise children but otherwise can't. Next, we have a discussion week asking a question that's near and dear to antiwork: What is the working class, exactly? Is it just a buzzword, or is there something deeper to it? It's one of those terms that can sound stuffy and inaccessible, but as we'll see on February 8, it's nothing to fear at all. As the month heads on, we'll delve deeper into the philosophical question of what gives you purpose in…

Was told today I should “feel incredibly grateful” that in under 2 years I’ve got salary raises of £10k. I only achieved that because I was being severely underpaid.

My parents are so out of touch with reality. I have a masters degree and yet my boyfriend who never went to uni is earning £12k a year more than me. I’m incredibly proud of him and all the hard work he has put it but still. Life sucks.

A customer asked an employee to slice him some cheese and pack it, the client didn’t take it, he didn’t even want to buy the cheese anyway, he just didn’t like to see an employee sitting so he had to give him something to do to feel like he’s superior than him.

Workers need more power against abusive customers.

Just a rant about the hamster wheel we’re all stuck on

I think reducing the various factors that contribute to the unprecedented levels of economic inequality seen today to a “boomers vs the younger” thing is reductive and largely unhelpful. But…. Boomers, I ain’t buying your inflated fucking properties off of you when you’re ready to cash out and “downsize”. The price of the asset I’d be buying now might correct itself as population densities in western countries steadily decrease. Nothing sounds worse to me than the idea of being in debt to the bank going into retirement (if I’m lucky enough to retire) for potentially a lot more money than my most expensive possession is worth. As someone fiscally quite risk averse, I’ll actually be enjoying my lattes and avocado toasts instead, thanks very much. We’re all fed this narrative that homeownership is the only “correct” way forward. Perhaps that’ was true for previous generations, but for those younger, I’d…
