Not because I’m too dumb or too lazy or anything like that. I have great scores and a great work ethic when given the opportunity. Just bad luck. The wrong family. The wrong parents. The wrong income bracket. Etc. Yes, miracles can happen. But society is designed to keep you in the economic bracket where you started, or worse. I’m trying to come to terms with this and what it means. Why are our futures and circumstances determined so much by a birth lottery? How do we maximize happiness in such an unfair society?
Work & Technology
There's no such thing as a dream job …Even if it's something you like and passionate about, like let's say, film making…Once it's a day life responsability you have to do to make ends meet and deal with shitty costumers….IT STOPS BEING YOUR DREAM JOB. IT'S JUST WORK. Life should be about hobbies, friends, family, things your enjoy and work it's something you have to do to survive.
Posts that say things like “I’m not requesting PTO for next week, I am telling you I will not be here. It’s not a request!” I have seen many of these and others like it. There is no doubt there may be a few folks out there that would do this, but I think they are in the vast minority. Reminds me of the guy you see at the river fishing next to you. Neither of you have gotten even a bite for hours, yet he tells you he was here yesterday and pulled in trophy Steelhead every 5 minutes. Showing off for the crowds, but they’re in the trenches with the rest of us.
I work for a medium-sized engineering firm, I make about $100k USD a year before taxes as a middle manager/team lead engineer, this is enough for a lower middle class perpetual renters lifestyle in the city where I live. I paid off my student loans last year (much cheaper here than in the US). I get PTO and sick leave and support myself and my partner who is suffering heavily from burnout after a very abusive work culture she had to endure for many years and so only works part time. I would consider my lifestyle to be the bare minimum dignified lifestyle a working person should expect – I am not rich, I pay $2400 a month in rent (on the cheap end in my city), and after bills and expenses it means I can save a little for our future and we can take the odd domestic vacation.…
We are getting scammed. We work our lives away and employers just make the numbers go up in our little accounts every two weeks. Depositing NOTHING. It’s just data in the air. And sure I can go and turn it into physical money but what’s that worth? Who says a dollar is worth a dollar? Currency is a construct and if we don’t believe in it then it fails. Who’s stopping someone from saying that my nothing money is worth more nothing? Who’s stopping people from saying my dollar is now worth less food in exchange? I work, I see the numbers in my account go up and down and I feel empty. My life is tied to how many numbers are in my account. It has no intrinsic value. It’s all fake. I hate it here.
Some Thoughts About AI+Robo-Workers
Ok – so you know that part in The Terminator where Kyle Reese was talking about how machines can't be bargained with or reasoned with? Corporate Worker Bot ZXZX001 Feels No Pain Hear Me Out — Smashy Smashy as Praxis …Does anyone know how expensive it is to repair an AI Controlled Robot? LMFAO who cares 🤣 – it's clobbering time! For some reason a bottle of water just shorts out the circuits, I dunno 🤷️
I need an internship to be able to go to university and now I might have a company where I could do it but I only need 6 months of internship and they want to do 8. Because in the summer months I would be there to help them while other workers have holiday. I don't think I would have any kind of holiday and it's also unpaid the entire time because they don't need to pay me. I don't really know what to do, I really need an internship in generel but idk. If it was only the months I need, I'd consider it more but now that its more than that + I still need to pay my rents and its 2 months basically useless internship. How would you do it?
