This happened in July of last year. So I worked for a mid sized bank, BokF, working cyber security. They didn’t provide cell phone, hot spots, anything. I was in a rotating “on-call” system, but it wasn’t calls, their version of service now only sent text messages. Since we didn’t have work devices, I didn’t put my work email on my personal phone, but they did sign my cell phone into the system to be texted. I was complaining to HR about this, about how text messages didn’t wake me up. My boss’s suggestion was to get some metal song as my text tone (again, my personal device) and he advised me that I had 5 minutes to respond to text messages or there would be actions against me. My store is under new management. We close at 8:10, scheduled until 8:30. Everyone in store knows to maximize that 20 minutes and try to get out of there on time. Most of us have kids, and some of us (myself included) have a longer drive home. The new manager wants to hang around and piddle on the iPad and just do whatever until 8:40-8:45. Most of what he’s doing I believe could be done before we close the doors. My husband works nights, and has to leave 10 minutes after I get home when I leave on time. (We have a baby and one car, so he can’t leave before I get home) So I’m already in a hurry when I leave. I’ve informed the new manager of this. Got laid off from my company of 7 months due to budget cuts/reducing workforce. My team is now extremely short-handed during a busy week and will be short-handed afterward. At least got a severance pay of 2 weeks and a listing of other positions i can apply to (all pay way less than i made). Started applying instantly when i got home. Have over 30 applications out. And done 3 interviews. With more interviews lined up. Plus, having a misdemeanor on my record hopefully doesn't hurt me that badly. I'm hoping i get a job soon as i was planning on moving out, but now it's nearly impossible as all locations need income proof. Sucks everything is underpaid and good paid jobs required experience or higher education.
