How to approach my manager’s boss about an unprofessional end of year review?

Hi all. I had my end of year review recently, and was shocked by the score I was given of being satisfactory instead of strong performance. I say this because I have taken on and even asked for extra projects on top of all of my normal duties all with near perfect work. I’ve been working towards a promotion and have been told by colleagues and even higher up’s/managers that I’m doing awesome and am on track. So needless to say I was very surprised at my review. When I detailed everything I had done and asked how that wasn’t considered strong performance, this woman looked at me in the face and said “I don’t have an answer for you”. When I asked what more I could’ve done to receive strong performance she said the EXACT same thing. I felt like I was going crazy asking for an explanation and…

Why would a company keep relentlessly firing people without even properly coaching them first?

I worked for an independent insurance agency about year ago. After I got hired I came to the realization I was replacing a girl they were firing. That happens. People get fired for various reasons. Except they kept gossiping about her after she was gone. I finally asked a coworker why this girl I replaced was fired and her answer was “because she was an idiot.” I don’t think she was an “idiot.” I think she was under FAR too much pressure to perform flawlessly. It was happening to me. Every little fixable mistake I made I was scrutinized. They listened in on every phone conversation I had with clients and chewed me another one if I said one little thing wrong, or forgot to ask one question. I began to walk on eggshells every day. I was nervous and paranoid I’d slip up. There was almost no way I…

Told my boss I might need emergency surgery soon, and his reaction was “Is it next Saturday? I hope it’s not. I need people for next Saturday!”

Found out I might have a spinal abscess at the hospital, and although they asked me to stay for an inpatient MRI I said no, and ended up doing it outpatient and going home. I did go to work the next day despite my symptoms because they needed me, but I stopped to explain what was going on to my boss. I explained if it was a spinal abscess, I might need emergency surgery and I will need a lot of recovery time. But I wasn’t sure yet. He replied with, “Wait, so when’s the surgery? I hope not next Saturday. Next Saturday is awful, and I need people.” I laughed it off then, but now that I think about it….what a reply 🤔

Job interview – old school people suck

My wife works for a company that subcontracts her, and 3 other people, out to another company, it’s a partial work from home. 2 days in the office one week, 3 the next. Her office is about 30 minutes from the house. Her company is phasing out her department so the company that she contracts out to is going to bring them in-house. She is going to be doing the exact same job, not a thing is going to change. They are even staying at the same office building, just renting out the space. So one of the partners, a man in his early 60s, at the firm she is moving to decided he wanted to interview everyone before finalizing the position. My wife was the last one to interview so she asked the other people what pay they were offering. They told her it was confidential and that if…

I’m finally within reach of a job that would make me less miserable, but I’m scared I’m making a bad decision.

I 26F am miserable and burnt out from my corporate job that I've been at for 2 years, so I've been applying to other positions for the past 5-6 months. I've never been career-oriented. I love my friends and family and only look forward to spending time with them and my cats, playing tennis, and all other personal activities. I want a job that I clock in and out of, that pays me enough to live my personal life. I've done two interviews for a job that would be much more simple than my current role. A lot of people would find it boring, but I personally would rather have a boring role than one that makes me constantly overwhelmed and panicked. I would be working 35 hours per week compared to my current 50-55, and I wouldn't have to take home the work with me. I would be taking…
