Hello, I work for one of the big 4 consulting companies and recently have tried to stand up against these unpaid overtime requests with very little notice. Unfortunately, I was the only person on my team of 5 to do so, (the other 3 are fresh new grads very eager) and said yes to working most saturdays and sundays when asked. I rejected a weekend work request one time because I had a ski trip planned and they gave me 2 days notice for the weekend work. I understand big deadlines and such but I just cant bring myself to work a lot on the weekend. Very bad for my mental health as well. Fast forward 2 months and had a discussion with my coach/manager who pretty much said I am not getting the promotion this round and cited the dark horse culture of grinding out on weekends and he…
the thing about sacrifice
Selfless service is an ocean where individuals drown. “The Bourgeoisie Can Not Wait!” Yells the waiter at the cook. Never been not disgusted by what people do for money.
I work for a shipping company at the nearby airport. On Wednesday, we had one of the worst snow storms of the year (for my part of Canada). There was frozen rain, hail, and winds reaching nearly 30Km/H. The high winds blew a 1200 pound can off the loader and nearly crushed a man. Had he not been looking up at the time, he would be dead. The maintenance crew told the supervisors it was too dangerous to open the doors of the plane, but they had us do it anyway. Just another reminder that to them, you're nothing but another tool to be replaced once you're gone.
Targeted then fired
I recently just got fired at work after a slew of incidents where i was being “bullied” but some co workers of mine and every time i tried to contact my manager about the ordeal they will “be on my side” for a second and talk bad about them to out of no where telling me to get over it after i caught those workers make jokes about hurting me and trying to spread rumors about it. I found out i was in the process of being fired so i quit out of the blue and got messages from a good buddy of mine there that everyone was celebrating my termination. even people who were “on my side” and some who i’ve never spoken to at the job. I decided to contact corperate about this because i fear the next person will go through the same thing (not the first…
How do you Americans really live?
Every time I watch an American reality show people always live in huge beautiful houses. And I don’t mean reality shows about rich people. It can be documentaries about different subjects, about obesity or a makeover show or whatever, where it’s mentioned the person works as a kindergarten teacher or a nurse but still live in a very beautiful large home. Then I see posts here about American people really struggling and living pay check to pay check. And there also seem to be many homeless people living in their car/a tent and crazy stuff like that. So what’s it really like for those of you with a very average job and salary. Do you have a nice home or do you need to share with flatmates? Have you been homeless or close to it?
