I know someone who grew up during the great depression dirt poor and managed a furniture store in southern california his brother owned. I don’t know the exact time frame of his story, but it probably was between 1950-1980. I lean more towards assuming it is 1960-1970ish. Many years ago he told me they had to hire all mexicans because young white Americans didn’t want to work anymore. All they wanted to do was just go to the beach and hang out. Only later did I realize what was probably going on here: nobody wanted to do that kind of labor for that low of pay. So he had to find a group of people desperate enough to accept such low wages and/or poor working conditions. I know the topic of rent has come up many times in this group and I need your help I just bought my first home. Nothing fancy but for a single guy, more than enough. I am planning on offering the 2 spare bedrooms up for rent. They will share a bathroom. Question is, how should I go about doing rent? Option 1: A flat rate based on expected expenses (utilities, mortgage, etc). Option 2: A variable monthly rate where bills are split 3 ways. The downside to this is the unknown amount owed.

Unemployment is historically low, especially in red states. Covid benefits, relief, and exceptions have dissipated to near zero over time. Still, people who live in some these states are struggling to find work across certain cities, counties, and states. Yet, you hear about certain states, primarily in the Bible Belt (sorry that’s one of the bigger commonalities) say they need more people to work and are wanting to eliminate SNAP, food stamps, and different types of unemployment benefits. Not only do some of these states have historically low unemployment, there are big pools of job applicants who have been regularly looking for work, since 2020. My contract for employment ends in a few weeks and I was just told it won’t be renewed. I feel very lucky to have been given some notice. I can’t begin to imagine others burdened by an immediate layoff. Still living paycheck to paycheck, I literally have no idea what I am going to do. My work was so specialized that it won’t translate anywhere else and I feel like I’m going to have to start over in a new industry. Mortgage – utilities/food – car payment – child costs – I already live frugally as much as possible. I was planning on staying at that job for the rest of my life. I've been in my new company for the last 4 months and I just feel I'm in over my head. I'm learning all different things at once, from Reporting, articles, HTML, onboarding New customers, check ins, email's, online chats and so much more. While the management are very nice, the workload is so much for me and I'm going in everyday stressed and my weekends are stressed. The work itself bores me and I simply do not enjoy it, the thing is I need money and I'm not sure what I'd do if I Left this job. I really don't enjoy it and while I like hard work, I've been thrown so much different tasks while still trying to get to grips with the software and how it works so I can help clients. Just looking for advice really.
