Are all employers this ridiculous?
Tell me if I’m wrong
One of my coworkers is very extremely weird (the other one has no opinion of his own and just agrees with what the first one says), i felt uneasy while talking to him since my first day when he said something that other people (my manager) are stupid they don’t know anything. He has a habit of saying things nobody asked and out of topic. Like if the topic is “what’s the purpose of class A”, he will first respond with “it is quite self/explanatory” while in reality the naming in codebase is so off and nothing is self-explanatory. when the discussion is about a certain vague logic that involves viewmodels/widget, instead of adding to that, he will say “ok now what are viewmodels/widgets. let me tell you” then he keeps repeating that for 20-30 mins and wasting time. in every ticket, he writes comments for code that i didn’t…
I’ve been at my job for two years. I hadn’t had much issues until lately. I’ve been sick off and on since December. Colds, Covid, pneumonia, IBS, ovarian cysts, you name it. I just keep getting sick. Work told me to take off until i was negative so i did. I got sick again and thought the Covid came back, so i called off to test myself. Before they told me not to show up if i had symptoms even. I put in to get Monday off to take my mom for treatment. I also put in to get off for an OBGYN Appt. I have ovarian cysts and need ablation surgery for endometriosis. My mom has been diagnosed with lung cancer, and i told her I’d drive her. Well, work didn’t approve it due to “me missing so much”. They’re the ones that told me to stay home! A…
My employer now has a snack box…
It's in the cafeteria. They wrote a e-mail to everyone that it is a big thing on their behalf. Everything in it costs 1€ and they trust us that we don't take something without paying for it. The catch is: None of the items costs more than 0.80€ when you buy it from a regular store. So, my employer is basically scamming us into buying overpriced snacks while talking about “trusting us to be honest”.
My boss (department head) is nearly at retirement age (and she’s wealthy enough to retire whenever she would want to..) I keep noticing she is pushing more of her responsibilities onto my plate. This has slowly happened over the past year with minor (but insignificant) pushback on my end. I am worried she is loading all of the work to me (already working 40+ doing my regular duties) and making her last year(s) easy. In a 1:1 meeting today, she described her quarterly project as “our[‘s]” and “we” are working on the project. It is possible that she is preparing me for the big job, but I feel like it is becoming bigger projects that should be her responsibility. She gets paid significantly more and this next one is a major company-wide decision. On multiple occasions, I have asked for an idea of where I am going. She would not…
