I work as an IT tech and go to locations to fix issues on site. I frequently re visit places and get to know the company's clients. Yesterday I helped a manager there and for small talk asked if they were having a Xmas party and he said yes. My coworker who is shadowing me said after “You can't ask that. You could get in trouble, it's not professional, we're here to do a job and that's it, that has nothing to do with IT” Fuck you. I wasn't asking if I could go, I wanst asking personal life crap, it was just a simple fucking question to make small talk. If you're wondering why I'm pissed at this it's because this attitude is pervasive in workers that they have to be robots or else they will risk being fired. Fuck that, if I get reported and fired for that…

My job is being a cart attendant at a retail store. I'm not hired through the store, I'm hired through another company the store outsources to. My company doesn't offer the same pay or benefits that the store and it's departments has for it's employees. They have another outsourcing company for pushing carts and cleaning that pays more than the company I work for at the same store. I asked for a raise to be equal pay with the temps I work with, and all I get is a 50 cent raise. (I tried applying through the company that pays more, they didn't take me) Why is it that I work at the same location as everyone else, yet I'm hired through a contracting company so that I don't get paid as much or receive the same benefits as the regular employees like cashier's and stockers etc.

can they do that? my last day is the 31st. we get paid for holidays, even when we don’t work the holidays and we are off that day. i never had a job where i was paid for holidays before so i don’t know.

My mom has worked at a nursing home for 5 years, great employee and has always showed up and dedicated unlike anyone else there. she got fired literally for having health problems and her boss was scared she would call off too much.. not even sure if that’s legal but she gets unemployment so she’s fine with the situation. Whatever. Anyway, every year this place gives a holiday bonus to each employee based off the amount of hours they worked that year, and they call everyone’s name and hands an envelope and the employees clap etc.. But my mom got canned a week before the party. She showed up still to the party because she thought she’d get her bonus, but she never got called and when she asked her former boss, they just turned around and ignored her. So she called and said she feels entitled to the holiday…

I work for my local zoo (which I actually love, and they pay me fairly) in marketing. We're closed Christmas Eve and Christmas, except for essential staff who have to take care of the animals and who are on-call in case of emergencies. Our Events Manager just told me she got a call from a guy who wants to know if we can open specially for him so he can propose to his girlfriend on Christmas Day at the zoo. For reference, the high is supposed to be 19°F.
