Category: Antiwork
Went to a wedding earlier this week. And met a few people from extended family and friends who were at the same table. It feels so awful when the topic of work comes up. One guy is a software engineer at Microsoft making 150k at 23 years old. A 26 year old girl who was very cute is finishing up med school. Everyone is doing well for themselves, and then, there is me, 26 year old who couldn’t get a job for 2 years after finishing a psychology degree and now stuck working at an amazon warehouse. It’s so embarrassing, I hate it
Let’s make fake LinkedIn accounts.
I say we all make Fake LinkedIn accounts and flood the site with snarky and funny responses.
Even my country's newspapers report on the big strike. But they concentrate on the usual BS of “workers want pay, healthcare will be worse because of them.” Can you point out some really good analysis of how the system, that decades ago was unironically the envy of the world got to current problematic state?
Concurrent jobs?
Long-time lurker and a first-time poster. I don't know if this is the right place for this comment, so feel free to redirect me to another subreddit. I want to work for two companies simultaneously. My schedule and work load allow it and there's nothing in my contracts that says I can't do this. Is there anything else I need to consider? Any reason I shouldn't do this? Anything I should do to protect myself if I go down this route? Thanks.
I suffer from anxiety and borderline autism, and workplace environments are so toxic for me. I've never been able to secure a long term job that pays the bare minimum, and as a result I still live with my mother. My anxiety causes me to miss days, as a result I got fired from a job last year that was probably going to be my one shot of getting somewhere. My life is looking pretty bleak at this point and I just don't know what to do anymore. All I do is burden my mother with extra bills. I'm still trying though… I applied for a job last week that gives $13 an hour. It is very physically demanding and they indicate that they are “always hiring”. Red flags I know, but what else can I do? I have an interview tomorrow. Is this all I'm going to accomplish in…
Manager lied about base salary
I was hired almost a year ago as a part of a 1 year contract-to-hire role for my company. My base salary was 70 k as an hourly employee (40 hours a week with 1.5x OT). I had health insurance through the agency but no 401k match or PTO or paid holidays. My advice to anyone considering a contract-to-hire role is to avoid it. I was basically a full time employee but without any benefits. IMO this type of work arrangement should be illegal. I only took this arrangement because I graduated in the middle of the pandemic and was desperate for a job. Once I join the company as a full time employee I will become a salaried employee and get 401k match and PTO days. A month ago before my contact ended my manager verbally agreed to raise my base salary to 75 k. However, how a week…
Desperate for change.
I want to get out of my field of work. It’s exhausting and mentally draining, I see people hurt everyday. I’m developing PTSD from it. I was hoping to get a certification or learn another trade. What is a trade or certificate I could get within 3 months that allows me to work remote? You can PM me if need be. I’m an American if that makes a difference.
