So, I'm generally a lurker, but I'm running into a difficult problem I'm not sure how to solve. I was just hired at a non-profit community center (keeping it vague for confidentiality) as an assistant administrator. I am one of two paid employees, and we work together to run the building 25 hours a week. 3 hours open to the public, 2 for preparation, paperwork, and organization. I love my job already, it's perfect for me and the people I work with are fantastic. But, there is a monthly board meeting that I am attending, on Valentine's Day at 5:30-6:30pm or maybe more, that I am not being paid for. Nor is the Administrator I work for. This is the issue for me. I didn't know I was even obligated to be there until just as I left work this morning, so I can introduce myself to the Board. The…

The Daily Grind
I'm apartment hunting, and I went to go see an apartment. The guy's stuff was still there, so I asked when the lease was supposed to be up. The landlord said, as if it were completely inconsequential: “Oh, he just moved in, but then he got sick. So I asked him to move out.” My first thought was if he got sick from something in the apartment. Immediately followed by casually this guy said something, so inhumane. Christ, what a monster. I hope that tenant has somewhere to land.
Me this week (every week)
So far it is 3 days per week. Now they are citing stats to back it up.
the big bosses don’t understand
I started working at a new store, and it's the only one in the entire state of the various stores they have. They keep cutting the budget, smaller and smaller while pushing the expectations of selling more memberships higher and higher, and they are cutting hours, but they make more than enough. It sucks, they really do not understand it at all. I love working here, do not get me wrong, but the pay is not the best and the bosses just do not understand, especially after the holidays, many people already bought one from the holiday or already have one, it sucks and a bit stressful, it isn't the worst in the world, but man it doesn't mean it doesn't suck, my managers and we are working hard but we don't get the appreciation in return.
Offer was rescinded after negotiating
All I did was as for a little more, hoping he'd meet me in the middle. Nothing crazy. While the position may have been entry-level I am not entry-level. I would have had to learn a lot of business-specific things but I already have a lot of production experience. Here is the text. “Thanks so much for taking the time to write us back in such detail. While your confidence and drive are things that got our attention during interviews we're concerned here that the number of items in our initial offer you feel are below your self valuation may indicate misalignment between the type of position you're seeking and the nature of [company's] Production Assistant opening as entry level. While we do like you tremendously – you were our top pick for the job – we also recognize that you will require extensive training from ground zero on an…
