I noped right outta there

So I took a job as a receptionist. Close to home, really good pay for our area. First day. One of staff comes to me as I'm seated at desk, bends down with her hands on her knees (like you would a child) and says, “I'm your boss so you have to listen to me.” Ok…I've never met you before…so this is how we start off. Then, another staff approaches me after I answer the phone. And says, “You don't need to say, “Good morning, this is me, thanks for calling us, how can I help?” Just say, “Hi this is business.” Ok…now I'm being too polite. And then girl, yes girl, training me, tells me about every client, says racist things, and has to tell me her favorite word is fck. Like I hadn't already figured that out. And to clinch the deal…my hour lunch, from 12-1, began at…

How would you react if your superior did something like this?

A part of a machine we frequently interact with was half broken and the manufacturing boss admited that he knew about it but refused to say anything to see if someone of the workers would notice it and fix it. Today a roll of nearly a ton almost fell on a worker as the part broke. The before mentioned superior was almost gloating as in that this was all our fault for not fixing it and that we are lazy and bad workers and that he will tell the big boss how bad we are… Rather than telling workers about it and what to do he choose to play these stupid games all designed it seems so that he who is basically a manager doesnt have to manage anything….

I have to hear my deadname every fucking day and my managers wonder why i put in my two weeks

Okay so i am transgender and my legal name is different from my preferred name. My old name gives me a lot of discomfort, both for gender reasons and the traumatic things I went through while going by my birth name. i cant legally get my name changed yet because in my state the court fees alone are 400+ bucks. But i have been open about my preferred name since the beginning of my employment, and I’ve been working here for around 9 months. They have my real, updated name in the POS system so when the receipt prints out it says “Cashier: current name” instead of my deadname, which is cool. But in order to get my meal, I am still in the system as my legal name, which causes me a great deal of discomfort, as every cashier who checks me out for my meal knows my deadname…

Thoughts on paying a late cancel fee

Not sure if this is the right sub but I’m curious to hear people’s opinions on this. I’m a massage therapist and get paid a percentage of what the client pays for the session. My employer is wonderful and pays me well, and also makes sure I am paid when a client cancels last minute or no-shows to the appointment. The only way she can do that was a by charging a late cancel fee to the client. It’s not the full price of the session and all of it goes directly into my paycheck. However, we get a lot of pushback from our clients on this. It’s worth noting that most of the pushback comes from the boomer generation. They have the money and the time to get massage more often but don’t feel like they should pay anything for a service they didn’t receive. Ok I can see…

I need advice. should I just quit?

I have been working for Honda (Ohio auto plant)as a “temp to hire” for the past 5 months. I make $18.25 an hour. The job is Title is MRO( Maintenance Repair Operations) the job itself is a lot of heavy lifting, forklift operation, driving, managing inventory.. ect(warehouse work) It can makes for grueling 8 hour days. The job itself has taken a large toll on my mental health. Here resecently they have installed mandatory overtime because the higher ups “have failed to hire people to count for the up coming audit”. This is usually done by people hired on for a seasonal position to do the counting starting right after the plants winter shutdown. This year was different they dropped on us that the count would be done by us instead and they only notified us three weeks before the audit. This overtime is not tagged on to the end…

mayday strike? how do you feel?

im seeing a lot of circulation on social media about going on a general strike in may. no work, no bills, no participating in the economy whatsoever. people are being encouraged to start stocking up on nonperishables, saving up funds, talking to neighbors, all that. i just don't see this panning out. it seems super unorganized to me and i can see a lot of people who are currently saying that they'll participate flaking out once may actually comes and they realize that basically living off the grid for a month is incredibly difficult. what do y'all make of this? it just doesn't seem feasible to me. sure, a general strike is a great way to have our demands met, but like i said, it's just not organized.
