I was supposed to work a 6 hour shift today, as that was what I was scheduled to do. However, my manager decided to leave a sticky note saying “You're working 8 hours on a different shift instead.” for me to find on the sign-in sheet I love how the policy saying that schedule changes occurring within three weeks of the shift has to be approved by the employee doesn't matter when it's convenient for managers to fuck their employees over.

I started work at a local sushi bar about a week and a half ago and wasn’t given a contract or anything to sign, but was desperate enough to accept. He told me up-front he’d be paying me less than minimum wage, which shocked me, but I found out via Google that here in California (where the minimum wage is $15.50/hour) that employers can pay ~$13.18 for “learners.” Mind you, learners must have no experience doing similar or related work, and I was very, very open about having worked in food service, before. But I figured he was going to pretend that sushi specifically was different enough to classify me as a learner- something I disagreed with, but was willing to accept because literally anything above $0 is better than the nothing I otherwise make. But it turns out he wants to pay me $450 a paycheck to 40 total…

I got a job working at a university as an admissions counselor. I went through a panel interview, another panel interview. A background check and reference check and I was told part of the job was that I’d have to travel sometimes. Well they come to give me the offer and they told me my salary was 38,000 a year and I was in shock because after taxes that’s about 1200 every 2 weeks. That’s not enough to support myself as the cost of living has gone up. So I was supposed to start and I keep putting it off because I’m at the point where if I do work there. It would be hard for me to get an interview anywhere else because it would be during my work hours. So now I’m at the point where I keep putting off my start date because I really just don’t…

When I was a youngster getting laid off during the 2008 crash, I never filed for unemployment because I had a mistaken idea that I was taking money from the government and that only people with dependents could get it anyways. None of that was true. 1) You shouldn't care about taking money from the government, its your money – any money you 'save' the government with your hard work will be spent by rich people with access to lobbyists. 2) Unemployment hits your ex-employers unemployment insurance premiums. This is good. 3) Unemployment isn't too timing consuming to get. Just apply to a few jobs online per week. That's all. Hope this post is finding someone like 2008 me.
