are employees allowed to discuss wages in ohio?

quick question: I’m a firm believer in wage sharing but i always keep it discreet. i’m aware of the national labor relations act but recently one of my coworkers told me to be careful because discussing wages has been a fireable offense at her previous jobs. is it?

Should I bother to report my former job?

I had a really shitty part-time job last year. I won't go into many details about it, as it isn't important for the post. Except for one thing: I think they might have broken the labour laws. Or rather – I was told this by someone I trust but I wasn't able to find that specific law. Shortly before I was fired, I got into a conflict with my superior over the salary. In this country, it's possible to sign a document which allows you to keep the entire salary without it being taxed if it's under a certain amount. It's mainly helpful for students, as they usually don't earn that much. I signed this document at this job. Next month, I received my salary – and it was taxed. My superior kept telling me for two weeks that I had never signed such document, even though I had signed…

Employer deducting half of my monthly salary due to an error in their payroll software

I’ve never posted here before, always been a lurker so apologies for any issues. This will be a rant. This Tuesday at 4:30 pm I received an email from my employer that I was overpaid in the pay period right before Christmas and that the recouping would be taken out of this next paycheck (this Friday) No explanation in what was, no total and no itemization, no one to reach out or call for questions just the general HR website. The paycheck in question was higher than usual but I worked a TON of overtime before the holidays so didn't think anything of it. It took me getting my management involved plus messaging the auditor directly on Teams to get an answer today. At first I was told it would be about 75% taken out…but no scratch that! It was actually 99%! Quite literally nearly HALF of what I make…

I need to rant about my last employer. Fuck those guys.

My last employer is a smallish company that makes knock-off orthopedic implants. I was a quality manager for them, supervising a handful of engineers and a technician. The company culture was toxic as hell and I spent a majority of my time working to reinforce my team's morale and defending them to the rest of the company. When I say toxic, I mean stuff like the VP of operations would cuss out my quality engineer for insisting that we follow procedure. I worked hard to support and defend my team. They all worked hard and delivered results. As a team, we cut the average time to resolve nonconformances down from >100 days to less than 15. Results that matter. Results that help keep the business moving. At review time, I got praised. I got a 10k+ raise and an increase in my bonus rate. We signed the forms on the…

Damar Hamlin’s first question after waking up was ‘did we win?’ doctor says

The article in question: https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/damar-hamlin-buffalo-bills-update-01-05-23/index.html They love spinning this up like a feel good story “look how much he loves the game”. But it honestly just makes me feel sad for players like him. Imagine almost dying because of your work and you only care about whether your work is ok? I don't get why people think that's heartwarming. It's gut wrenching to me. This guy cares more about his work than his own life.

Should I take the offer?

TLDR: Potential for full-time benefits consultant position gives me concern (I’ll do my best to keep it short as possible, but I can’t guarentee lol). So I just got back from an interview with an insurance company. This was the second interview after having a group zoom webinar/interview two days ago. This interview was more about the next steps and how the pay works. I’ll do the best I can to give as much details in the easiest way possible without exposing anyone (especially since I privately recorded it in audio ). For compensation, it seems like it is straight-commission with an expected total of $2246.40 per customer with $270 stock bonus and $135 APO bonus for year one (comment me for more explanation cuz I ain’t good with this stuff). The job itself sounds like its basically helping small businesses by selling insurance. Now the issue is, I am…
