Caught in the middle with reimbursements

Another story about the supervisor who dislikes me. I have a stack of reimbursements that I haven’t been able to get submitted all year. Now undoubtedly I share the blame because I didn’t necessarily aggressively follow up on these, but in my defense, my workload here is consistently at least twice what I’m able to do as one person. I tend to be really efficient and am able to carry a heavy workload, so draw your own conclusions there. In any case, my supervisor insists that reimbursements get done on “Form A.” So I prep them, she reviews them, signs them, and I send them over. Accounts Payable says people from this funding stream get reimbursed via “Form B.” So when I have time (see paragraph 1), I convert these to Form B and bring them in to the supervisor.

Accounts Payable says people from this funding stream get reimbursed via “Form B.”

So when I have time (see paragraph 1), I convert these to Form B and bring them in to the supervisor. She doesn’t understand why they’re on this type of form. I say I don’t know, it’s just what they asked for so I put it together. She says no, that’s not right, go talk to them again.

So I do. The answer is the same.

So I go back to my supervisor. She says I’ve got to look out when talking to XYZ because she talks you around in circles and supervisor doesn’t understand what she’s saying. She says these people are definitely in the right funding stream to be reimbursed by Form A. Go back and check on it again.

It went back and forth like this all year. Yes, year. Some of these literally go back to last June. She wouldn’t listen to me about what I was supposed to do, and that didn’t change what form Accounts Payable would accept.

Eventually, finally, she decided to contact Accounts Payable herself. She was able to email someone that I guess she’s willing to believe. Guess what? They go on Form B. Just like I’ve been told and have been saying this whole time!

This is what my job is like all. the. time. It’s infuriating. She doesn’t respect me enough to listen to my answers, but she sends me out to ask them anyway.

Plus, anything whatsoever that is being submitted, she insists on personally reviewing before it goes. Even if she’s not the signatory. So there was no way around this without it biting me sometime later.

I have stuck around because I love everything else about this job, and I’m part of a program that includes automatic promotions the first two years. I thought I had to stay till next February to qualify to transfer for a promotion. I just found out today that is not the case.

Now the only thing keeping me here is the fact that she's the only thing causing me problems. I really love this job but it is not good for me.

I’ve been going through this for two and a half years.
