CEO/President justifies high deductible insurance plans by saying they help people be more frugal with their healthcare spending.

Today we had a “Town Hall” virtual meeting with the CEO and CFO of a fairly large corporation. During the Q&A section they were asked if the company was exploring the idea of offering an insurance plan that did not have a high deductible. One of them said something to the effect of “the company pays for their own insurance and are practically “self insured”, and that studies show high deductible plans help incentivize people to be more frugal with their healthcare spending, while still getting care they need”. An employee in the Zoom live text chat responded with “or maybe they live with injuries because they can’t afford to get care”. It popped up for everyone to see.
