City contracts with companies and offices guaranteeing in office workers.

This might be old news but I’ll elaborate on what I am referring to. A close friend has a job at a very large inner city company. After the pandemic they begin calling workers back into the office. There are many expected reasons for this but they mentioned one detail that stood out in particular: The fact that the city has a contract with the company that guarantees a certain minimum amount of workers be in the office space to fulfill that contract. So basically the company has a contract with the city that guarantees they arbitrarily come in occupy the city building thus most certainly guaranteeing they spend money there throughout their day regardless of whether it has any meaningful bearing on the companies productivity itself. I find that so deeply backwards and messed up that the city just demand such a thing when without it there could be…

I find that so deeply backwards and messed up that the city just demand such a thing when without it there could be so many more options and so much more freedoms while getting all the same things accomplished.

Whatever this rule is it needs to be abolished.
