I work for a small business that provides support personnel to the local school district. Think crossing guards, hall monitors, class room aids, and lunch room monitors. We of course only work when there is school, we don't get paid for Autumn, Spring, Christmas or Summer break, holidays or snow days. It's basically a seasonal part-time position with zero benefits. And the pay isn't that great.
The company is a small business, I'm not sure exactly how many employees because we are spread out over all the schools in the district, but I would estimate about 50-75. Anyway, like the title says, one of my coworkers sent out an email to all of us wanting to collect funds towards a gift for the company owner (a nice person). He is hoping to collect enough to get them a gift card to Great Wolf Lodge. For those not familiar, GWL is an expensive family resort. I can't afford to take my grandkids there, and doubt most of the other employees could afford to take their kids/grandkids there either.
I always heard you give down, not up. I'm not mad at the company owner, I'm sure she's not expecting anything like this, but I can't really afford to give anything, I didn't get paid for 6 days in November due to a holiday and Autumn break, and Christmas break is coming up. I guess I'm just venting about people not thinking.
