I work overnight at a lab. It requires a bachelor's degree and deals with biological samples. Naturally there are NO benefits. Insurance, holiday, vacation, absolutely nothing. I make $17.
When one of us calls out, it's not an extra 20% of work we have to do. We have to change our whole flow and bust out ass just to finish two hours later. I'd say it's over 30% more work when someone calls out.
Management tries to hire at $13 and cannot find anyone to work.
My crew is 5 people and everyone is super important. Everyone has a section to do and all the sections rely on each other. When one person calls out, that means we have to scramble to do both her section and ours. Unfortunately one of us is having health issues and constantly calls off and leaves us stuck. Management does nothing to help us.
Management doesn't look for more people.
So my only solution is to convince my crew (I'm not even manager) to just…..not work so hard.
Leave samples and tests pending.
Say we don't have enough time or people.
I'm done showing that we can get by with skeleton crews. Why would management change or hire someone else when we show that we can skim by with 4 people.
