I will have worked at my place of employment for 1 year in about 2 weeks. I was told when I started that I would receive PTO at the completion of my one year equal to the average number of hours worked that year. I’m a full time employee so I should be receiving somewhere around 40 hours of PTO. I started planning a vacation at the beginning of May to use my PTO but my employer informed me today that I won’t be getting any PTO. My company was sold to a new owner in October and the new owner isn’t giving anyone PTO until next October because we technically haven’t been working for the same company for a year until next year. Is this even legal? If they promised me PTO at 1 year and this is my 1 year can they really just deny me like that? I would have quit 3 months ago if I hadn’t told myself just 3 more months till I get that sweet PTO.
