i'll preface this by saying i work at a counter service restaurant. until a few weeks ago, we had a tip jar and a tip screen. i personally don't think we really should have had those, but i made good money off them. and then corporate decided to get rid of those. they said they'd increase our base pay so that we were making as much as before, but of course they didn't. i'm now making around $4 less per hour, just $1 above minimum wage where i live. this all goes to say that if you don't want to tip, don't tip! some people are perfectly happy to give us money, and some people aren't and that's totally okay. when you complain about tipping culture, it screws over the people working, because corporations won't pay us enough no matter what.
