Corporate Attendance Policy and Tardy Points

Got an email from HR today, with my boss CC'd. I was warned that I had collected 10 points. I am subject to this because I am a salary non-exempt employee, though my work is similar to other employees who are salary exempt and thus do not have to clock in and out. The threshold for being terminated immediately is 40 points. These points were acquired 5 points at a time for similar reasons. Clocking in one minute late, and clocking out one minute early. For a total of two minutes off the clock over a one month period, I am 25% the way to being fired. Meanwhile, salaried employees will frequently leave an hour or more early with essentially just a “hey, I'm outta here” on the way out the door. This is okay. But what the hell is the point of this kind of policy when it's punishing…

But what the hell is the point of this kind of policy when it's punishing my one minute when other employees frequently are off by much more, and it's entirely acceptable? Because I'm a different classification? Then what the hell is the point of the classification.
