Corporate being selfish arseholes

My girlfriend works in retail, and, through lockdowns, her job offered a work-from-home support role to certain people, her included, to keep the company up and running. A similar, full time, role doing that has just come up, and, given that she did the job and was consistently top of her team through lockdown, we assumed she would be an obvious choice. If she got this job, not only would she get a significant payrise, but would also be able to move in with me, as she doesn't drive. As I'm sure you can guess, we were both super excited about this prospect, yet she was told by her store manager today that he had blocked her getting the job because he needs her to stay in her lower paying role that she is currently in, as she is one of two people in the store trained for a specific…

Like, I'm fuming. The entitlement of her store manager is insane. Honestly, if it was me, I'd have walked out and not come back, but she disagrees with that course of action.
