I could really use advice on how my partner can proceed with this bs from his job or if there's not really anything he can do. Ok so, my partner does general contracting for a small family business. It's the very old lady who owns the company, my partners father and my partner. And that's it. They do all the usual general contracting stuff. And while his dad helps out occasionally, he's getting old so he's not very much help and he's also mostly doing other management type things. So my partner is regularly and daily doing jobs on his own that a team of men would be working on. And he does a phenomenal job. People are always impressed with his work and the quality. Here's the recent issue, I've been telling my partner for a long time now that he doesn't get paid enough for the work he does. He's gotten a few raises over the 10 years he's been there but he still doesn't make what he should for the very very hard and physical work he does. He also doesn't get paid any extra for driving large equipment like backhoes and bobcats or for unsanitary conditions or hazard pay or anything like that. A couple weeks ago his father brought on a couple more men who they already know to come help them out. My partner is good friends with one of them and he typically does electrical work and not general contracting work. But they needed the extra help so the extra guys agreed to help on a few projects. My partner found out last night that his father is paying this extra guy $4 more under the table (not even taxed) than he pays my partner (his own son) on his hourly paycheck and we are both extremely pissed. We have a disabled child together so I am unable to work bc he needs me to care for him 24/7. His father and the owner of the company are both more than aware of this and also aware of the financial struggles we face. With that information, is there anything he can do? My partner is not good with confrontation so any advice on how he can approach this issue and get a raise, or what he should say bc his dad will probably talk his way around it or be an ass, or any legal action that could be taken? This is massively unfair and he fully deserves to be making the same, if not more, than the extra guy that was recently brought on. And I'm not certain but I'm 99.9% sure his father makes WAY more than that hourly or even has a salary. Any and all advice is welcome.
