I deal with admin/accounting and budgeting stuff. I cover for two people at work. For one of them (Let’s call her Zoey, it’s mutual (she covers for me when I’m off and I cover for her when she’s off)
I cover for another person (Let’s call her Linda) who sorts mail and does reprographic stuff but she does not cover for me cause her skill sets are limited. When I cover for Linda, I’m basically expected to do two jobs at once. And according to them use my best judgement in prioritizing tasks (cause according to my managers what I do isn’t that hard anyway)
Now I put in a sick day like two weeks in advance for a mental break. I get a text Saturday saying I got to cover for Linda cause she suddenly fell sick and won’t be able to make it in for like three days.
I respectfully said that I already put in my time off and cannot make it.
I’m sick and tired of these people thinking that I will cater to their every whim and fancy at the very drop of a hat.
I never get any kind of support or words of praise, appreciation or encouragement from my managers. Linda however does. Cause a lot of her work is client facing and not behind the scenes.
How do you deal with a toxic workplace like this? Am I needy wanting my manager to even give me a good word every now and then instead of focusing on others?
