Coworker deleted my work

Today my coworker deleted my work from a Database because it might affect their work. This coworker mentioned they were going to send an email out this morning to let our customer know the work would take a little longer because she wanted to do it her way. I had already started working on it and thought I could finish it in time using data my coworker had already done. For this to work I had to work from inside my coworkers database. When my coworker saw that I was in her database she sent me an IM saying to stay out of there and deleted all my work. After deleting my work she proceeded to delete or remove access to more of the database to the point where I couldn’t find anything.

I told her to let our customer know the work would be late like we discussed but instead of emailing them she gave them a call and most likely started talking shit about me. I spoke to the customer playing dumb to see what’s going on and she informed me that she had reached out to her, that’s the only way I found out. Now there’s no email trace of why there will be no work delivered tomorrow.

I’d like to convey all this to HR directly because the last time we had an issue I spoke to our manager and the idiot went straight to her and blabbed. She is holding work and data hostage with protections so that if they fire her we’ll have no way to obtain it. So I’ll file a complaint in writing to HR and anything that happens afterward will probably be retaliation knowing her and my manager. I’d like to know if this is really a smart way to go forward because I might have to get a lawyer and lose my job and that all sounds like a pain in the ass really. Any advice?
