Cut down to 0 hours after 2 weeks

My former full time job had some complications which ended up with me working 2 part time jobs (half for the same employer, half for another). Both employers decided, because I was now part time, to completely cut my hours down enough that I wouldn't even afford rent. I decided to make a change and get out. I applied for multiple positions elsewhere and interviewed. Someone offered me a job on the spot, guaranteed full time hours, higher pay, only working weekdays (which as hospitality staff know is near impossible). Great! I accept. I let them know I need to give two week's notice to my previous employers and they agree, telling me they're desperate for a barista so they will happily wait for me to work that out.

Two week's later, I've finished up both part time jobs and headed to start at the new one. Only to discover the week before, they had hired another barista. All good, that's totally fine, we need it as we're extremely busy. I've been there two weeks and only worked 37 hours total over those as they've given the other guy all my hours and continue to send me home despite my protests and asking to stay later.

I got a message today to say they can't give me shifts this coming week so I should look for another job.

I totally get that I'm in the probation period and everything, but damn I hate employers that do that. Why guarantee hours and agree to my notice period if you're going to hire someone else and screw me over? Why claim desperation for staff if you only keep them for two weeks? What is the point.
