Dangerous heat @ work

So it's summer here in Australia and I work at a local chain bakery/Cafe. We sell bread, coffees, cakes and pies and we have a salad bar. This Saturday is forecast to be an intense 40+°C. I was hoping they'd close the stores for just that day but the owners are such stingey morally-bankrupt crooks that I knew it wasn't going to happen (I've been wanting to quit for a while but I want to wait til after Christmas). So I made an alternative suggestion to our operations manager. The conversation went like this: Me: Hi [manager]! I'm messaging to float a suggestion your way regarding the heatwave that's forecast for this Saturday. It's expected to hit around 40°C and I thought for the safety and comfort of staff it would be best if we didn't sell pies that day. At least at stores that don't have great aircon, like…

Me: Hi [manager]! I'm messaging to float a suggestion your way regarding the heatwave that's forecast for this Saturday. It's expected to hit around 40°C and I thought for the safety and comfort of staff it would be best if we didn't sell pies that day. At least at stores that don't have great aircon, like [store location 1] and [store location 2]. I figured it would help keep the shop a bit cooler and it wouldn't be too much of a loss considering we don't tend to sell many pies on hot days anyway. It's just a suggestion but I would be grateful if you could mention it to [the owners]. Thanks for your time!

Manager:Thank you for your concern but unfortunately this is not an option as the staff wages do need to be paid for by selling product.
I don't think your work on the weekend so that should be ok.

Me: I know I'm not on this weekend but I'm still concerned for my co-workers. What if they stop selling pies at 1 pm instead? That should be the hottest part of the day

I haven't gotten a response the last message yet but it's only been an hour.

I'm pissed bc the stores with little to no aircon really shouldn't be open at all given the dangerous heat levels, and bc the weekend staff is mostly untrained teenagers making 11 aud an hour. Punch and Judy (the owners, not real names) can take the damn L.
I mean, am I being unreasonable?? Am I the dumbass here???
