Ok this is a weird situation but I will try to make it short.
I just started working at a gas station that is a private owned franchise a little over two weeks ago. I was told that I would get paid yesterday along with the other employees on pay day.
When I showed up for my shift I asked my coworker for my check and he told me that the manager had forgot to make one for me. Obviously I was upset and asked the manager what was up. She had told me that I didn’t fill out the tax forms so she was not able to make me a check.
I had been working two weeks and asked if I needed to sign any papers or tax forms like I normally do for a job and was told no. I was given them yesterday by a coworker.
My manager told me that I would be getting paid a handwritten check next week untaxed, but I was really counting on my money to be here the day it was supposed to.
We went back and forth and she agreed to pay me cash that day, then later called back telling my coworker to just fill me out a check that they had left for the vendors.
This coworker is not a supervisor or manager and has never filled a check before. Ok whatever though, I will take the check and cash it in the morning.
The issuing bank would not cash the check because the handwriting does not match any previous check cashed from them.
I call my manager and she says it’s not her ducking problem and that she paid me so she doesn’t care. I mentioned that I didn’t want to have to call the labor board and she got angry and yelled at me and fired me.
I was able return the check today to the store and was paid for part of my time there. I had to return my keys and uniform and she wants me to go in Monday to talk.
Is this like not seriously illegal or am I trippin?
