Been working at Job 1 for three weeks now. Been fine so far. Boss is a huge know-it-all, 90% of the time I'm just sitting on my laptop since there's no work to do. Had one bad experience with the old district manager where my first week of work he assigned me to go to a convention outside of normal business hours. When I asked why I was signed up he said “he made me”. Dude didn't even ask my availability.
Just got offered a better job, Job 2. Nicer people, easier work, better pay. Put in my two weeks yesterday and the new district manager called saying she was “actually thinking of promoting me to head manager” of a different branch (I'm asst. now). I messaged her later asking for more details and was left on read. Today, overheard her talking to my manager saying she “is in 2nd round of interviews for a manager” (the same position she offered me). Just now, I messaged following up on my previous question and she said she was in 2nd round of interviews for it, and that “the same position might arise in the coming months”. I feel like she totally lied through her teeth to try to get me to stay. Now thinking of screwing them over and just hard quitting and not coming in anymore. But I'm also not starting my new job for 2 weeks and could use the money. Need advice. (To clarify: my new job can't start any earlier than July 10th, so I can't just hop over there.)
EDIT: Another idea I possibly had is to say I'm sick and use a floating holiday and just not come into work. That way I still get paid but am still screwing them over lol. I don't have PTO but I do have a bunch of “floating holidays” I could use before I leave. It also wouldn't be a total lie as my allergies have been pretty terrible as of late.
