TLDR: Don't do it. They offer ridiculous commissions that won't happen, and you get harassed for working.
My parents have been begging me to get a job. As a 32 year old, who has never held a job in his life, it's not exactly easy. Until i found a job doing solar sales. If you've been on Tik Tok, you've probably seen vids of solar sales guys making millions. It seemed like a very lucrative career.
I was super excited to make some money, until i found out it was a door knocking job. We're supposed to go to strangers' homes and talk to them in the middle of a pandemic? I almost quit, but they told me to just take whatever precautions i felt necessary, and i really needed a gig to be honest.
I didn't feel comfortable going up to a stranger's door, but how else could i get their attention? And then a genius idea sprung into my head. I bought an airhorn off of amazon, i would simply stand on their walkway, 20-30 ft away from their door and use my airhorn. Great idea, right?
Well no, the homeowners decided it was a good idea to harass an innocent salesman. I was literally just trying to help them save on their electric bill. One guy even got straight up in my face, even though i told him to stay away because of covid. My life put at risk, simply for trying to do my job. I quit after my first day and have spent the past few days crying. I am terrified of even getting tested. This is the closest i have come in contact with a stranger in years. Do not do door to door sales if you want to live.
Do NOT accept a job with a solar company. They will make you knock doors.
