Does anyone feel like they have any job security at all?

I was at my previous job for 10 years. The role phased out and I had a long lead time to find something else. No big deal. I have been at my current job for just under 2 years and feel like I have no job security. I can't tell if this is the new normal or just this place. In the time I have been here they fired half of the developers in my department to save money. This sort of blew up in their faces when we couldn't get work out the door. I got thrown into an unworkable client situation and was pressured that if I didn't magically make this problem client happy that had been historically unhappy, the company would go under if they left. They later admitted the client is just a problem, I didn't do anything wrong and reassigned them to someone else. Then…

Then we were told the company was seeking investors and we needed to make everything look good for this, again with dire threats of doom and gloom. Then no further mention of this.
In the last 2 months about half of the upper management has retired or left to work somewhere else. All waived off as just coincidence that had nothing to do with anything going on here.
We now have new management that is restructuring things. Most of it seems logical and is fixing some historical dysfunction. The new mandate is all departments (including customer service and help desk) must be profitable or else. They shifted some resources to other departments and are replacing what they used to do with “flex” contract offshore help.
My role is really feast or famine where I am working 9-12 hour days for a few months then have maybe 6 hours worth of work each day with vague expectations of if this matters or not.
Now I am concerned I am going to be let go to save money or replaced with a “flex” worker.

Is everywhere this fluid and unstable or did I just find a place with zero job stability?
