I've been having this app idea for a bit, in the same way that unionization works for workers I want to also be able unionize my wallet. User's would agree to contract with a given business for perks from the business, for instance if I guarantee 50K new users to a business they will give all of those user's 20-30% off. I've not worked out the rest of it but that's the start of the idea and I know there are a lot of holes.
Often the biggest arguments I hear from climate change deniers, or even centrists, is that it will cost too much to move the market into clean tech. It occurs to me that if a big enough block of consumers we're to simply say we refuse to buy from you if you don't implement this technology then they wouldn't be able to do anything? Except sue the app maker for libel of course, but in that case we could open source the app and let collectives organize themselves. In fact I think communal rule of the collective would be the only way to keep it somewhat clean.
Anyway, might be a dumb idea, might not be, idk. What does the internet think? Has it been done before?
