Employer docked my hours because they hired too many people

Hey guys So basically over the last month my company purchased another contract and added an additional few hundred employees. I have been asking for full time employment since starting the position 4 months ago, and have yet to hear back about the decision. There are new people who were hired by my company who immediately were given full time hours with benefits included. I have been asking for full time employment since starting the position 4 months ago, and have yet to hear back about the decision. The issue that I am having currently is the fact that my part time hours have been cut from 30 hours (after practically begging for that since they started me off with 8 hours once a week) to 16 hours spread out in 4 days (so 4 hour shifts). So basically, I’m only working 16 hours and still have to commute there and back and arrive half an hour early because it’s required, but I’m only making around $360 before taxes hit, which doesn’t even touch the amount I have to pay for my student loans (~1300). I’m not sure what I should do right now since I’m still in the background stages for my career job, and I don’t know how long that will take. There is a Union, but I’m not sure what I can really do. Any suggestions?
