Employer taking money due to their mistake

My Boss had made a 5 year plan, my pay was to go to salary on the 1st of July but he had made a typo on the plan and I had been paid from the 1st of April instead, that had then been passed on to the accounts team, who had been making the increased salary payments. I had handed my notice in and he had then noticed his error and now I am having to pay back the supposed overpayment. where do i stand on this? first time poster to this page so any questions, let me know.
