Had to separate from my job due to health reasons. I gave them ample time, and they seemed very understanding- until my last day.
I received a letter that stated all my PTO was erased. When I asked about it they said, “we just had an unlimited PTO policy” but I worked for this company for 5 years and took one week off for family this entire time. If I missed a day here or there I was sure to make up for it later and I was also on call 24/7. I was constantly pressured to work ridiculously long hours until the core management team burned out and left.
My paystubs show I clearly had 8 weeks of PTO. In fact they had to run it through payroll because I guess it’s illegal to do unlimited PTO the way they were doing it in California. I overheard HR in the hallway talking about it a year ago.
When I pressed them further they said, “oh we just didn’t use that system- if we were to use that we’d have to go back and mark every single time you were out.” But whenever I had things like a doctor appointment I worked extra so it’s not like I had that time off.
They’re playing games and keep dangling the idea of maybe they’ll take me back after I heal but not if I make any trouble for them. Wtaf?!? I wasn’t expecting to be out that money. It seems absurd that they can go in and remove all of it.
Has anyone heard of this? Is it legal? It’s despicable to do this especially when I have health issues that I’m trying to heal from (that no doubt were exacerbated if not started by this job)
