…It’s infringed upon one way or another.
I work for a small family business. They are generally amazing to work for, very understanding in most fields, never ask for doctor certificates if I come down with a cold though I supply them anyway. They are accomodating if I need time off for appointments and usually don’t bother messing around with docking my pay because they know I go above and beyond.
But pretty much any time I schedule time off (annual leave) I have had to either come in on my time off or at least been asked to.
I had worked here for two years before I took my first two weeks of annual leave, of which I only ended up taking 1 week. A colleague injured himself (outside of work) and I had to come in to pick up the slack.
The next few times I booked time off, I would often end up working an extra 4-5 hours (I was paid overtime) to ensure they could get by without me. This obviously put a strain on my relationship, since it left my partner to do all the prepping for our trip alone.
I have been here for 8 years now, and today I have been asked to postpone my vacation for a day because a colleague has decided to postpone an elective surgery so it doesn’t interfere with their holiday (that they put in for much later than I did), and they won’t be back in time for me to start mine.
So I put my foot down. I am in an LDR and my partner is coming to my country. I am going to meet her at the airport. I will not be budging on this. I’m currently getting silent treatment by my boss and their son.
I gotta say I’m giving less and less of a shit about this company which really sucks because I’ve put so much work into making it successful.
Rant over.
