ex-employer states that if you leave work early within first two hours of shift, you don’t get paid for what you worked (ct, usa)

my ex-employer would make employees sign a piece of paper stating that if they left their scheduled shift within the first 2 hours for any reason, they forfeit all pay, even if they worked a portion of that 2 hours. is this legal?
