Fast food is literal hell

I had to rant about this because I needed to know if there's any laws in place to deal with something like this. My Wendy's that I work at will CONSTANTLY schedule a shift so it's only 2 people closing the ENTIRE store so usually anywhere from 5-2 hours of there only being a manager and one employee. The Gm has stated that we only need one person taking orders cashing out orders bagging orders making drinks or frostys(across the store) and getting Fry's/nuggets(remember we carry things like Baconater fries that require going all the way across the store to put together.) And depending on the time watching the counter. And the other person doing grill sandwiches etc. Keep in mind this isn't a dead location it's constantly packed and people never just decide I don't want to wait(I've had nights with 15+ cars in my drive thru) and on…

When I started I was promised 40 hours my very first day was like this only had the shift lead and me(I wasn't originally closing either I offered and found out that I was the only one) we got a new am who started cutting peoples hours changing the rules etc and within the first 3 months I had done so much extra that I had basically burned myself out. Now here's where the extra shady shit comes in. I got my husband to work there with me because we had been so short staffed in the beginning that I figured we really needed him. It has been three months and he still has to constantly be fight get a pay check fight to get hours or even his uniform we ended up taking one from a guy who quit otherwise he wouldn't have one. My husband got so stressed from constantly not knowing when he was gonna work if he would have money etc that he developed stress ulcers that led to him ending up in the hospital us doing tests and he possibly could have Brain cancer. The Gm apologized and said he' make sure he was going to be actually scheduled instead of me having to call him to come in last minute. Well that didn't happen and now I can't even get his check because they his last name wrong twice(literally it's 3 letters) I just went home because I made my self sick from only consuming dollar store food because he hasn't been paid yet. I actively do not understand how it's legal to do any of these things. We are fine and moving in with family to deal with the stress but I'm just actively just frustrated.
