I have been on oxygen and on unpaid medical leave since the middle of July. It has been that long finding a diagnosis. This diagnosis will require surgery. It was recommended to me to take unpaid medical leave from work because I couldn’t fulfill my duties. Turns out that my blood oxygen levels were dropping to less than 82% which puts me at risk of falling. At this point I can only walk twenty feet without feeling like I’m going to pass out.
My immediate supervisor has seen me get dizzy and almost fall. She was the one who recommended I take medical leave. Today I got a text from my immediate supervisor asking if I was ready to come back to work. I said no because I’m very sick and waiting for surgery. She then told me to come in and move the very heavy, vast amount of stuff out of my desk so someone else could occupy it. I told her that was not possible. I didn’t offer any explanation.
I’m at a loss of what to do or say. I don’t know how to explain to my supervisors that my illness is serious. It’s serious enough that I am receiving temporary disability.
I’ve decided if they are going to treat me like shit, they have to work for it. They can move all of my desk tchotchkes, the two giant plastic totes filled with craft supplies, my desk drawers filled with bird food and art supplies, and a forty-three inch bird cage to the tiny ass desk themselves.
Thanks for letting me vent.
