I work at a small(ish) moving company in a small labor pool. I am almost 30, and I have been in this industry for over 15 years. My father is still in this industry. I know the ins and outs, the ups and downs and I can do most everything with my eyes closed.
I had been hired in as a coordinator, someone was retiring. I excelled quickly in that position, and 2 weeks later I was promoted to operations manager along with coordinating. 4 months after that, I was handed the damage claims from our moves. And a month after that, I was the warehouse supervisor.
My company had 4 people to do all of these jobs before I got there. Then it was just me. They consolidated all work into me. And I was underpaid.
I did the work, was promised a raise and even asked my supervisor to give me the bump twice, to no avail.
I found another job in the industry with one responsibly that pays 20% more and I took it.
Today I gave them my notice. Manager was upset. Owner asked why I’m leaving, and I explained I’ve had this conversation with manager multiple times. Manager never even spoke to owner about a raise. Which is why I’m leaving lol
Everyone was pissed, I feel a little bad. But fuck it, I did the work properly and asked for my dues. Didn’t get it, now I’m moving the fuck on.
I know my work ethic is great. I know my worth and I know what I deserve.
