Fire at job – now facing the blame- am I at fault?

So short version because i don’t want to give details that would link this post back to me …I have been at this company for more then 6 years – I am in a job that deals with electrical issues but do not have any certification on electricity- 4 years ago I was asked to do the wiring on an equipment that ran 3 phase and high amp that needed 1/0 gauge wire to handle the current due to the distance it need to run we have to get 2x20ft and splice them together- I had an issue since the first splice connect I ordered was linked between the phases, upon telling my boss and wanted to order another he told me no and showed me an alternative of butt splicing using copper pipe so I did it … Last week their was a major fire- today the fire inspector…

Last week their was a major fire- today the fire inspector said the cause was that splice and asked who did it my boss said we couldn’t remember… the finance officer said it was one our guys … I am the only one there that works on electrical things…

How screwed am I? Do I need to get a lawyer? I have no clue what to do about this
