I have some chronic health conditions my employer knew about when I started there. They told me they could work with a flexible schedule as long as I made up my hours and I have been doing that. I found out yesterday I’m going to need hip surgery in a few weeks. I pushed the surgery out to give them a bit of notice. I then immediately informed my supervisors this morning and within a few hours one of them called me in her office and fired me. She told me that it was because I was not a good fit and “aggressive enough” for the position (legal assistant) but I had been receiving nothing but positive feedback on my work and it’s real coincidental they decided to do this within hours of knowing I needed surgery.
I gave up working in healthcare because my family strongly felt I needed a desk job. Well, I tried the desk job and that didn’t work out either. At least I won’t have to worry about getting time off for my procedure!
