Fired for applying for internal position opening

Long time lurker, first time poster. Please excuse the long rant. As the title says, I was fired from my job today for submitting an application for an internal job opening. My system was experiencing issues with a recent server update so I had to get with IT for a fix, who couldn't remote in so had to call me and try to work through that. Long time lurker, first time poster. Please excuse the long rant.

As the title says, I was fired from my job today for submitting an application for an internal job opening. My system was experiencing issues with a recent server update so I had to get with IT for a fix, who couldn't remote in so had to call me and try to work through that. In the process, he commented on my aptitude for IT and mentioned an internal job opening in his department. I said that I had received the email and it was on my radar but I was still new and did not meet the companies minimum 1 year in current position requirement. Someone on his end overheard the conversation and said I should still apply as they sometimes make exceptions, and after taking a closer look at the policy it stated that a department head could override that. I emailed my boss around 9am with the completed application for her approval and my reasoning for the change (more on this below) and never heard anything about it for the rest of the day. I got a call after getting home from my rep that my assignment has been ended by my boss and that I was welcome to apply for the other position now.

For context, I was hired as a temp to perm in April with a 480 hour requirement. On the 28th of July I inquired about my permanent status, as this company REALLY talks up their benefits package, which you are only eligible for on the 1st following date of official hire. I was told I needed to get a report of my worked hours, so I did and they were at 550 at this point not including the 4 days that week I had already worked. The following week I asked again and was told they had a meeting on their calendar with HR for the next day, the 1st, so benefits were out the window for another month.

Meanwhile, since I started we worked through a 30+ day backlog and were running out of work every day with 3+ hours to spare. I am very good at the job and stayed busy the whole time I was there, typically doubling my quota until there wasn't enough work for me to do so. Clearly this position had been over-filled, so if anything I expected gratitude for my willingness to shift to another department in need. Joke's on me!

I don't really know what the point of this post is, I guess I just needed to vent, thanks reddit.
