Fired on the day my benefits started?

Started working a job where I was performing well (as recognized in performance review meetings) and getting positive feedback/regards from my senior coworkers (the senior sys admin told my manager that I was a 'good pick'). At the end of the day, the company fired me on the day my benefits started – I was REALLY looking forward to some f**king health insurance. My manager did mention my punctuality not being as perfect as they would like, but overall, I always clocked in on time. For the first 2 months, my punctuality was impeccably perfect, then by my 3rd month, I started dipping into the grace period a little, but isn't that what a grace period exists for??? So if there was any valid reason for firing me, it would probably be my punctuality, but I didn't think it was horrific? This was my first job in my field out…

This was my first job in my field out of college, so maybe I'm super naive; maybe I'm worse at working than I thought, but why did this happen???
