I have three jobs. First job from 6am-2:30pm, then my 2nd job from 4:30pm-10pm. Both Monday through Friday. My 3rd job is working security on the weekends and I work 6am-6pm. Doing this to pay down bills and help my in-laws, who are having a rough time financially.
For my weekend job, we're supposed to get our site schedule emailed to us. We haven't gotten it for a while (months) and I've been working my regular shifts. I got an email this morning that my schedule's been changed from 6a-6p to 6a-2p. So cut 4 hours each day, 8 hours overall. I called my manager and this was the conversation:
Me: Hi (mgr). I saw the schedule had me down for 8 hrs each day, Saturday and Sunday. Is this a mistake or did schedules change?
Mgr: if you remember when I hired you, I said you work 12 hour shifts, but may change to 8 hours down the road.
Me: yea I remember. But it was also said I can continue to work the 12-hour shifts if you can find someone else for the other 12.
Mgr: yea but I'm not doing that. Your new schedule is 8 hours each day now.
Me: I see. It would have been nice to get a heads up or notice that the schedule was changing. So there's no way for me to get my hours back?
Mgr: nope. This is the schedule. I don't need to give notice of schedule changes.
Me: I see. This won't work for me though. I'd rather work the 12-hour shifts.
Mgr: you're more than welcome to look elsewhere for 12-hour shifts. But your schedule is 8-hours now.
Me: ok. Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to resign then. I'm not giving up my weekends for less hours, when I can go somewhere else for higher pay and work 8-12 hr shifts.
Mgr: you're gonna quit without giving me notice? At least two week notice?
Me: you didn't give me notice if a schedule change.
Mgr: I don't have to give you notice of schedule changes. But 2 weeks is common courtesy and a professional way to resign.
Me: I wasn't given the common courtesy or shown professionalism when the schedules were changed without notice.
Mgr: let me talk to my boss and see what I can do then if you're just gonna quit like that without notice.
I just sent an email after that convo and resigned. I knew they were gonna let me work my 12-hr shifts but then have someone hired by next weekend to takey spot. We get 1-2 new people every week and they pulled that stunt on multiple employees. Horrible communication and managing by the branch office. I used to manage in security for multiple companies and got out of the field due to the turnover and stress. Only picked this up for the extra money. I'll be able to grab something soon to fill the void.
