I was hired at my company as a remote worker during the pandemic. My department is very tech-centric, so there were plenty of folks hired on from around the country.
Recently, my team was moved to a new department with a 5-day in-office policy. When it was first announced, I immediately filed an ADA accommodation request to continue working from home. For all intents and purposes, my request was denied. The “accommodations” they offered were insulting.
I’ve been doing my best to make it work, but it’s killing me.
Not accounting for holidays, I calculated I’d be putting 40k miles on my car in a year, which is beyond absurd. My conservative estimate on gas costs would be 5% of my take home pay, and I’d be paying something like $1300 a year for oil changes, not to mention the other accelerated wear and tear.
The joke of it all is that, aside from this asinine mandate that isn’t even companywide, I actually love working for this company. They’re just making things extremely difficult for arbitrary reasons.
Has anybody experienced something similar and had any success fighting back?
