After a year and a half of employment I was fired in July (reduction in force) from Spacestation in Utah and received 30 days of severance. I filed for unemployment after that ran out and I am dependent on it to pay my mortgage. To my surprise, last week I received a notice that my unemployment is being appealed and I have a hearing on Oct 3rd. I'm pretty anxious about it getting pulled. I'm pushing hard for a new job but have had no progress in 2.5 months. Is there anything I can or should do to help my case?
This is the message that was sent in the appeal.
(ME) elected to receive, and was paid, 1 month of severance pay and continuation of benefits upon separation. Based on the decisions made for the other employees who were let go during this reduction of force, we believe that his severance pay would disqualify us for liability in this case. We did allow all the employees who were made redundant at this time to choose if they wanted their severance paid as a lump sum, or if they would prefer to have it paid to them as if it were regular payroll. (ME) elected to receive his on the payroll schedule, so he did not receive a lump sum, but was instead paid bi-monthly for the severance pay he received.
